Department of Art and Art History – The University of Texas at Austin
Start Date: Fall 2026
Full-time, Non-tenure-track

Description

The Department of Art and Art History at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for the position of full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Practice in Print, with an anticipated start date of Fall 2026. Printmaking is among the department’s most historically prominent disciplines and features comprehensive facilities in intaglio, lithography, serigraphy, risograph, and relief. We seek applicants who are versed in traditional print media and have an interest in expanded print processes. The MFA in Studio Art is required, as is teaching experience. The position requires relocation to Austin, TX.

Practice faculty in the department typically focus on undergraduate level instruction and are expected to teach three courses per semester. Standard class assignments include Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Print as well as Print for Non-Majors. Teaching will be the primary area of contribution for this position, along with Mentoring and “Additional Contributions to the Academic Enterprise,” comprising service and creative/research activities, which can help to establish the currency in practice that the University requires.

Service may include participation in Print Area governance, curricular development, and committee work critical to the mission of the Print Area, Studio Art and Department, as well as potential for College and University service. Salary is commensurate with experience.

The successful applicant will join a large and vibrant department, totaling 40 tenure-track and professional-track faculty members, among whom 21 artists pursue their creative practices side-by-side with art historians and art educators. The Studio Art program – ranked 23rd among Best Art Schools by US News and World Report – serves approximately 300 undergraduate majors and 20 MFA students. The University of Texas at Austin offers outstanding resources in the Fine Arts Library, Blanton Museum of Art (which has a vast print collection), Harry Ransom Research Center, and Benson Latin American Collection.
