Penn State Berks, a college of The Pennsylvania State University, located in Reading, PA, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Literacy Education beginning August 2020 in the undergraduate Elementary and Early Childhood Education program. For information about Penn State Berks, please visit our website at Qualifications: An earned doctorate (Ph.D./Ed.D) in Literacy or Language Arts is required; ABD status with degree completed before August 1, 2020. Candidates with teaching experience at the preschool and/or elementary school level with experience in urban schools and/or learners from culturally and linguistically diverse populations is highly preferred. Candidates should demonstrate potential for research and a record of effective teaching at the college level. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in areas such as: literacy instruction, literacy assessment, miscue analysis, literacy theories and practices, literacy coaching, content/disciplinary literacy, children’s literature. Responsibilities: The faculty member will contribute to the undergraduate teacher certification program in Elementary and Early Childhood Education at Penn State Berks, be expected to conduct an active program of scholarship in literacy education and to serve the professional community in literacy education. The successful candidate will teach reading, language arts, and children’s literature courses as part of an Arts and Literacy block, and courses matching the individual’s background. This position carries a 3-3 teaching load for a total of nine credits per semester. The review process will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
