Position Overview

The University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for a joint teaching-focused appointment at the interface of philosophy, ethics, and technology, particularly information technology and artificial intelligence. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching philosophy to both philosophy and technical audiences (e.g., computer science students) and engage in teaching-related scholarly activities.

Key focus areas:

  • Ethics and philosophy of information technology (IT)

  • Ethics and philosophy of artificial intelligence (AI)

  • Teaching philosophy to technical and non-technical audiences


Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality instruction to undergraduate and graduate students in Philosophy and IT/AI-related courses

  • Develop course materials, lectures, and curricula

  • Engage in teaching-related scholarly activities and pedagogical inquiry

  • Contribute to ongoing collaborative projects between Philosophy and Computer Science departments

  • Participate in departmental service as appropriate


Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Philosophy or a closely related field (completed by start of appointment or shortly thereafter)

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry

  • Teaching experience in degree-granting programs, including lecture preparation, delivery, and curriculum development

  • Ability to teach both Philosophy students and technical audiences, such as Computer Science students

  • Strong expository, organizational, and interpersonal skills

  • Evidence of commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching and mentorship
