The Penn State School of Theatre invites applicants for a tenure-track, 36-week, Assistant Professor position to lead the School’s vibrant BFA Stage Management program, which is ranked top-ten in the nation, and also to serve as the Production Stage Manager for Penn State Centre Stage. This individual will work closely with the Director of the School, the Production Manager, and other production staff on scheduling, crew and stage management assignments, and production protocols and guidelines. Duties include: Oversight of all student stage managers for the main stage season and a variety of studio/workshop productions, supervise technical rehearsals, and sit in on production meetings for all School projects. School service, including recruitment of a class of 4-6 stage managers each year, is also expected. Instructional responsibilities include: Teaching 2-3 undergraduate courses in stage management or production each semester, integrating programmatic technological advances into stage management curriculum, mentoring and assessing students throughout the production process, and promoting best practices for stage managers in all fields of live entertainment and event management. Qualifications include a terminal degree (must be completed by August 2020) plus 3 years of professional stage management experience, or a BFA in Theatre accompanied with 7 or more years stage management experience on a national level; the ability to teach in a college setting; and AEA stage management affiliation. Experience across a variety of mediums including theatre, opera, dance, corporate, and special events preferred. Criteria that will be considered when reviewing candidates include significant recent professional stage management experience operating under the guidelines of Actors’ Equity Association, dedication to active and engaged mentorship of young people, and a commitment to supporting equity, diversity and inclusion in the field.
