Associate Professor in Organizational Communication


The Department of Design and Communication, SDU Kolding invites applications for an associate professorship in Organizational Communication and English. The position is available from February 1st 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. 

Applicants must demonstrate original and independent contributions to organizational communication research on an international level, and they should describe the research they aim to pursue. Applicants should relate their research to one or more of these four specializations:
• Organizational and corporate communication
• Narrative theory
• Branding theory
• Intercultural communication

Teaching skills and a pedagogical base knowledge are required matching the qualifications typically acquired during an assistant professorship including a practical course in higher education didactics (corresponding to the "adjunktpædagogikum" of the Danish University system/ professional postgraduate teacher training). 

Teaching duties will include courses in organizational communication and similar topics at all our campuses and at all levels, as well as supervising student projects. In the application, applicants are asked to specify how they will contribute to the further development of the Department’s research and educational profile within organizational communication. 

In addition to research and teaching, the associate professor will be expected to perform a number of other tasks: active participation in applications for external funding, dissemination and outreach activities, supervision of assistant professors, postdocs and PhD students, responsibilities as head of research, internal and external assessment committees and some general administrative tasks. 

The Department of Design and Communication is a humanistic department that encompasses Design, International Business Communication, Information Studies and Interaction Design, Tourism, Library Science and Web Communication. 

International staff is expected to be able to teach in Danish after a two years period.

If the successful applicant has not documented teaching experience corresponding to assistant professor level, the applicant will be employed on trial for the first 18 months. Appointment to this position may also include teaching obligations in regard to related degree programmes.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), Cirkulære om overenskomst for Akademikere i staten 2019 (the document only exists in Danish).

  • A maximum of 6 of the most relevant publications. Please attach one pdf-file for each publication. For any publication with a co-author, a co-author statement must be submitted as part of the pdf-file 

Applicants for an associate professorship at the Faculty of Humanities are requested to submit a teaching portfolio with the application as documentation for teaching experience as well as supervision qualifications. Please read more here. 


Application and all appendices must be in Danish, English or one of the Scandinavian languages. Please always include a copy of original diploma/certificates.  We only accept files in pdf-format no more than 10 MB per file. In case you have more than one file per field you need to combine the pdf-files into a single file, as each field handles only one file. We do not accept zip-files, jpg or other image files. All pdf-files must be unlocked and allow binding and may not be password protected.


Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee and the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. 

The assessment report will subsequently be forwarded to the Head of Department who will assemble an appointments committee. An interview may form part of the overall assessment of the applicants’ qualifications.  

The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.


If the application does not meet the requirements mentioned above, the Faculty of Humanities may reject your application without further notice. Applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.
