Position Overview

The Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education (LHAE) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto, invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position with a specialization in critical adult education and community-engaged research and pedagogy.

The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.


Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Adult Education or a closely related discipline.

  • Demonstrated record of excellence in community-engaged research and teaching.

  • Experience supervising graduate students and leadership experience within a graduate program.

  • Research and teaching interests that complement and enhance LHAE’s Adult Education and Community Development program.

  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas as they relate to critical adult education:

    • Indigenous, Black, and/or 2SLGBTQ+ communities

    • New technologies and media

    • Arts-based research and practice

    • Community health and wellness

  • Evidence of research excellence demonstrated by:

    • Sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals

    • Clearly defined research program articulated in a submitted research statement

    • Presentations at significant conferences, awards, and other notable activities

    • Strong endorsements from referees

  • Evidence of teaching excellence through accomplishments, letters of reference, and a teaching dossier including teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations.


Responsibilities

  • Sustain and lead innovative and independent research.

  • Teach in the Adult Education and Community Development graduate program, including the Introduction to Community Development course.

  • Lead the development of a new Doctor of Education (EdD) degree program.

  • Supervise and mentor graduate students.

  • Contribute to the scholarly community and service work of the program, department, OISE, and the University of Toronto.

  • Maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program with international recognition.
