Duties and responsibilities
  • The principal task of the Associate Professor in Estonian and Comparative Folklore is the teaching of a cluster of subjects related to Estonian folk narrative, its comparative research and the collections of the Estonian Folklore Archives. Associate Professor organises and plans teaching in their subject(s) and looks out for the effectiveness of that teaching. Associate Professor designs syllabi, selects textbooks, creates study and teaching aids and supervises teaching staff members involved in the teaching of his or her subjects.
  • Associate Professor also supervises students in Bachelor's, Master's and PhD programmes.
  • Associate Professor is an independent researcher who may supervise the research of lecturers, assistants, research fellows and junior research fellows.
  • During the elected term of office (5 years) an Associate Professor must carry out research at least in the volume equivalent to that of 0.5 of a PhD thesis.
Required qualifications
PhD or an equivalent qualification.

Required experience
  • Associate Professor must be an independent researcher who is competent to supervise Master's and PhD students, as well as junior teaching and research staff members.
  • Associate Professor must be qualified to teach the subjects of his or her specialism on all levels of higher education and to supervise teaching in those subjects.
  • Candidates for the position of Associate Professor are expected to have conducted internationally recognised research in his or her specialism or a closely related field equivalent to at least two doctoral theses. Associate Professor is required to engage in research on a constant basis: within the last five years, he or she must have completed internationally recognised research equivalent to at least one of a doctoral thesis.
  • Candidates for the position of Associate Professor are expected to have teaching experience at the university level equivalent to at least two years' worth of serving in the position of lecturer or senior assistant.
  • The candidates must have supervised Master's and PhD students.

Estonian and English.

The salary of the Associate Professor will be determined by negotiation. Remuneration based on UT salary rules.
