Position Overview

The University of Toronto seeks an outstanding scholar for a joint appointment (51% Law, 49% Philosophy) in Law and Philosophy. The candidate will:

• Engage in teaching and research that complements the specialties of the Jackman Faculty of Law and the Department of Philosophy.

• Focus on areas including:

  • Criminal Law

  • Philosophy of Law

  • Political Philosophy

  • Philosophy of Race

• Contribute to interdisciplinary approaches to law and philosophy.

• Maintain an externally funded, internationally recognized research program.

Qualifications

Candidates must:

• Hold a J.D. or equivalent law degree and a Ph.D. in Philosophy.

• Demonstrate research excellence with a record of high-impact publications, conference presentations, awards, and strong reference letters.

• Demonstrate teaching excellence, evidenced through:

  • Teaching dossier, course materials, teaching evaluations

  • Strong letters of reference

  • Campus presentation if invited

Other Requirements:

• Established international reputation in law and philosophy

• Ability to lead innovative, independent research programs

• Commitment to interdisciplinary and diverse approaches to scholarship
