Position Summary
Indiana University Northwest, a Minority Serving Institution (MSI/HSI) in Gary, IN, seeks a dynamic visionary and innovative leader to serve as the inaugural Associate Executive Vice Chancellor for Student Success (AEVCSS). This administrator reports directly to and works in consultation with the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (EVCAA). This position is a yearly appointment renewable up to four years. This temporary position is supported by a U.S. Department of Education grant under the Title V, Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program with expected annual renewals contingent on the availability of grant funds. Faculty rank will be determined by credentials and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Uses national best practices and emerging research to develop collaborative initiatives aimed at improving student retention, persistence, and graduation rates.
    • Collaborates with the IU Northwest Student Success Team to partner with the campus, colleges, schools, and departments to develop, monitor, and adjust student success plans and strategies for all undergraduate student populations.
    • Accesses and analyzes Indiana University data sources to obtain usable student success data and facilitates data-driven communication across the campus community to build and institutionalize a culture of student success and servingness.
    • Maintains a complete inventory of student success initiatives with information about the scope, goals, student population, persons responsible, resources committed, and outcomes.
    • Advocates for student retention and success initiatives across campus and assumes a leadership role in sustaining a culture of belonging and success for all students.
    • Applies a broad knowledge of modern pedagogies and the literature establishing their efficacy in underserved populations and works with faculty and the Student Success Team to support the dissemination and pursuit of those pedagogies.
    • Provides strong leadership for the Office of Student Success and its staff and develops an effective, integrated approach to support student success.
    • Leads efforts to increase campus awareness of and progress towards achieving shared student success goals.
    • Develops a greater campus-wide understanding of evidence-based pedagogical and student support practices and supports the adoption of these practices as appropriate.
    • Prepares regular reports on campus student success initiatives, including their overall effectiveness for the Inspiring, Valuing, and Empowering Success Together (INVEST) project and campus leadership in accordance with the approved evaluation plan.
    • Provides recommendations to the EVCAA regarding the use of student success fees/resources and leads efforts to secure external funding for future student success efforts.
    • Regularly reports information about student success initiatives and outcomes/impacts relative to the IUN 2030 plan with external audiences in coordination with the EVCAA.

Basic Qualifications
Required
    • Ph.D. or Ed.D.
    • Demonstrated expertise in pedagogy and analysis of student records/data
    • Five to ten years of experience and leadership focused on student success
    • Experience or familiarity with programs or services to encourage success of Hispanic, low-income, and underrepresented students

 

 
Preferred
  • Knowledge and experience of student success platforms, trends, research, and best practices
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal communication and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision making
  • Ability to support strategic priorities of campus
