Early Childhood Education
Singapore University of Social Sciences SUSS (SIM University), S R Nathan School of Human Development
Singapore

Singapore University of Social Sciences invites applications for full-time faculty positions in our Early Childhood Education programmes. Singapore University of Social Sciences  has been Singapore’s only local university that caters to working adults through offering part-time programmes. It has started to offer full-time undergraduate degree programmes to fresh school leavers since 2014 and will be offering a full-time Direct Honours Bachelor of Early Childhood Education with Minor programme in 2017.

This 4-year programme will be the first locally awarded full-time early childhood education undergraduate degree in Singapore, a significant milestone in the Singapore early years teacher education landscape. The programme is anchored in socio-cultural perspectives, an inclusive approach, a strong belief in child agency, and children’s meaning making through multiple modalities. More importantly, the programme aims to bridge the nexus between theory and practice for pre-service and beginning early childhood teachers. It involves field-based research and collaborative work with teachers to develop the programme. The programme will be delivered in a blended combination of online and face-to-face experiences, with an emphasis on teacher learning through regular placements in local kindergartens, child care centres and other relevant settings. We are looking for dynamic and experienced educators to join our team.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop course materials and assessments

  • Teach courses in both face-to-face and online environments

  • Recruit and advise students

  • Mentor students both on campus and in their placements in the partner schools

  • Help build a network of partner preschools for forging collaborative partnerships both locally and overseas, to bridge theory and practice

  • Establish a research agenda for active engagement in research to inform practice

  • Engage in national initiatives to improve the quality of Special Education in Singapore

  • Serve on internal and external committees

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Basic Requirements:

Applicants should have an earned doctorate in early childhood education or a related field. ABDs are expected to have completed their doctoral studies when the appointment commences. In addition, we are looking for candidates who:

  • Are keen to develop an innovative teacher education programme that addresses the theory-practice nexus and issues related to human agency, social equity and cultural diversity.

  • Have successful experience teaching in teacher education and/or professional development programmes.

  • Have successful working experience with children, birth through six years, and their families in diverse early childhood settings.
