English Language Lecturer

Introduction: The General Science Department seeks to ensure that all Gulf University graduates are equipped with 21st century skills that will enable them to succeed in their studies and pursue a successful professional life. The department aims at helping students from different programs at instilling qualitative values and developing advanced skills. The General Science Department invites candidates for full time and part-time positions for undergraduate English courses. Candidates are expected to teach courses ranging from A2 to C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. 


1. Expected Qualifications:

  • MA in English Studies, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, Linguistics, Literature or a related field of enquiry

2. Expected Experience:

  • Ideally three years’ experience of teaching in a higher education institute.
  • International experience
  • Experience in developing course specifications as per the national qualification framework and international accreditation standards
  • Industrial experience in Educational consulting, proof-reading, translating, interpreting or any other relevant domain

3. Required Skills :

  • Fluent in English language
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Ability to use different teaching methods to accommodate students’ needs
  • Ability to work with students from different culture and background
  • Use technology and innovative ways of teaching
  • Excellent command of report writing
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Able to work individually and as part of a team
  • Able to work under the pressure of deadlines 

4. Rules and Responsibilities:

  • Support the vision, mission of the university and applies its policies and procedures
  • Teach English as a second language for different levels to undergraduate students, design syllabi, and assist in the development of the General Science department
  • Produce lesson plans, prepares exams, and develop material related to the courses taught
  • Write reports reflecting students’ progress
  • Attend meetings, workshop and participate in professional development
  • Encourage students and constructively provide feedback in a timely manner
  • Respect deadlines
  • Serve in committees at the university and college levels
