Posting Summary

The Department of English at Rutgers University seeks to appoint a Director of Intensive English at the Rutgers English Language Institute at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. The Director will serve a three-year renewable term starting January 10, 2022. Candidates will possess a record of innovative and collaborative leadership experience in English language acquisition, American language studies, or writing studies for international students, as well as a strong record of professional engagement and teaching in these or related fields.

This is a primarily administrative position with duties that continue through the summer. The Director of Intensive English @RELI will report to the Director of Rutgers English Language Institute, which is part of the Writing Program within the Department of English. The Director of Intensive English @RELI will teach nine credits per year and will oversee and continue to develop curriculum and programming for non-credit and pathway programs within RELI.

Minimum Education and Experience

• An advanced degree (e.g., M.A., M.F.A., Ed.D., or Ph.D.) is required, Ed.D. or Ph.D. preferred.
• Candidates should possess administrative experience at the college or university level; a demonstrable engagement with current trends in English language acquisition or writing pedagogy for international students; a strong record of publication and/or professional activities, including the practice and pedagogy of English language acquisition; and a strong record of teaching in writing studies, linguistics, English language studies, literary studies, multi-media composition, rhetoric, or related fields.
• Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to relate effectively to a wide range of people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures; a proven commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; a record of advocacy for non-tenure track faculty; and experience with budgeting, research design, and faculty mentoring.

The Rutgers English Language Institute (RELI) is a global community that supports undergraduate and graduate scholars who use English as an additional language.
