Job Purpose

Support Academic lecturing staff on the correct pedagogical use of Technology for Teaching and Learning (the LMS and emerging technologies).

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • A relevant BTech/Honours degree preferably in Education or Educational Technology or Information Technology (Preference will be given to a teaching, or teaching technology qualification)
  • At least three (3) years' experience in academic teaching or actively and directly supporting academics with integration of educational technology in Higher Education
  • Knowledge on the use of an electronic Learning Management System and emerging technologies
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
  • Design & development of electronic lecture material: Apply computer application software skills such as word processing and web page programming tools in the design of electronic teaching material for online teaching and learning. Knowledge on the development and deigning of on online courses on an institutional learner management system.
  • Identify pedagogical needs of lectures for online learning: Identify the course specific pedagogical needs of any lecturer of CPUT in order to assist them with the design and development of blended/e-learning online courses, including the correct way of presenting materials, promoting student engagement and the correct way to assess student learning.
  • Apply Outcome Based Education Principles and constructive alignment: Identify the correct pedagogical outcomes required for a course and design the course layout in such a way that students may be able to pace themselves within their own ability and the constraints of the calendar and timetable to reach the required outcomes.
  • Train lecturers in the appropriate use of electronic learner management systems and emerging technologies: Assist lecturers to develop their own skills in the use of an electronic management system, including the design and development of their own course material and the design of relevant assessment to measure student competence and success and the use of emerging technologies for teaching, learning and assessments.
  • Online support to lecturers and students: Communicate with empathy with students and staff and to assist with any problems they may experience in the effective utilisation of technology for teaching and learning.
  • Do any other duties as allocated by management.
