Course / Program DescriptionDesign Communication I: Design Communication II: Job DescriptionUCLA Extension is considered one of the top programs of its kind, offering to more than 35,000 students per year approximately 4,500 classes and non-degree certificate programs to meet the professional development, continuing education and personal enrichment needs of the full spectrum of nontraditional students as well as companies and organizations throughout and beyond the Los Angeles region. UCLA Extension Architecture and Interior Design Program has fostered the training of interior designers for over four decades and is one of the top-notch programs in the country, with an average of 300 students enrolled and alums working in the best interior design firms all over the world. We offer students the opportunity to learn from highly qualified practitioners who hold advanced degrees, are passionate about teaching and impart knowledge within their field of expertise. Application to teach are accepted throughout the year in order to fill immediate program needs and to increase the depth of the instructor pool. Design Communication for Interior Designers Instructor Qualified applicants possessing current knowledge in the following topic area(s) are encouraged to apply: • Foundation architectural drawing skills include hand-drafting floor plans, section-elevations, axonometric projections, free-hand one and two-point perspective drawing, and fast-sketching techniques. • Visual concepts include composition and design, contour and line, proportion and scale, plan and section, form and space, tone and shadows. • The layout and organization of interior design drawings rich in information and psychological content. • Surveying and translation of measurements into interior design drawings in scale. For a sense of the depth and breadth of our course offerings, visit https://www.uclaextension.edu/architecture-interior-design/courses Duration: Applicants must be flexible in teaching the courses once a week for 11 weeks (about 2 and a half months) in different formats, including: • CLASSROOM IN-PERSON and HYBRID: 3-hour weekly live classes at the UCLA Extension Westwood campus. • REMOTE ASYNCHRONOUS: 3-hour weekly live Zoom meetings scheduled from 3-6pm or 7-10pm. • ONLINE ASYNCHRONOUS: Pre-recorded weekly lectures and online discussion boards. All courses are deadline-driven and take advantage of the online learning management system (Canvas) for distributing course materials, syllabi, assignments, and feedback.
