Within UC Davis, the Division of Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) is a $40M self-supporting academic unit reporting to the Provost. The CPE team includes 210 academic and professional staff who collectively serve 60,000 learners from all 50 states and more than 100 countries each year. CPE has one of the university’s most extensive educational portfolios, offering academic and non-credit professional certificates, on-campus programs for international students, contract programs for government and corporate clients, conferences, and boot camps. The division also develops and manages UC Davis’ classes and programs on Coursera, which have attracted more than 600,000 students since 2016, and administers two self-supporting master’s degrees in collaboration with graduate groups on campus. CPE plays a critical role in advancing the university’s outreach mission in service of non-traditional adult learners and serves as an innovation hub to pioneer new models that may be scaled across the campus.

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION:
CPE’s Agriculture Programs is a world-class portfolio of educational and training programs in the agricultural sector (e.g., winemaking, brewing, sensory science) designed to prepare adult learners for upskilling, reskilling, career transition and advancement. The Certificate consists of 5 quarter long (10-11 week) courses taught via the internet, with the final 4 courses similar to upper-division science courses and limited to 50 students per class to insure intensive student/instructor interaction.

This position will serve as a lead instructor in the Winemaking Certificate Program, teaching four quarter-long (11-week) sections per year and helping to keep the courses taught in the Program both relevant and up to date. The intended focus will be instructing in the Quality Control and Analysis in Winemaking (VTC253) and Wine Stability (VTC254) courses but may also involve teaching other courses as needed. This is a fully remote position.

PhD In Fermentation Science or related science field (Chemistry, Food Science, etc)
Two years of teaching experience (preferably online wine science teaching)
Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development and the application of adult learning methodologies
Ability to relate academic information to “real world” winery situations

Appointment/Compensation:
This is an academic term appointment with an initial 1-year appointment, eligible for continued reappointment. Fully remote position at 50% time with possibility to increase to 100%.
