Position Description

The Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University anticipates one or more openings for a full-time Language Instructor/Teaching Assistant in Chinese expected to begin August 1, 2020 and to extend through June 30, 2021. Language instructors (formerly Drill Instructors) assist course heads in Chinese language classes, assist in preparation of teaching materials, and teach individual drill sections.

Basic Qualifications

Candidates must have native or near-native fluency in Chinese; a bachelor’s degree or higher; experience teaching Chinese at the college level to students whose native language is English; and computer literacy.

Additional Qualifications

Candidates with experience teaching intensive summer programs in China for U.S. college students (such as Harvard Beijing Academy) preferred. Candidates with a master’s degree and advanced fluency in English are also preferred.

Special Instructions

Interested candidates should submit:

3. Names and contact information of three referees, who will be asked by a system-generated email to upload a letter of recommendation once the candidate’s application has been submitted. Three letters of recommendation are required, and the application is considered complete only when at least three letters have been received.
