Lecturer Above/Below the Bar in Education (Mathematics), Full Time, Specific Purpose Contract Applications are invited for a fixed-term appointment as Lecturer Below/Above the Bar in Education (Mathematics) at NUI Galway. Overview of post This position will be primarily linked to the Undergraduate BA in Mathematics and Education and the newly developed BA Education (Computer Science and Mathematical Studies). Both programmes are four-year honours degree concurrent Initial Teacher Education (ITE) degree programmes. The outcomes/ key deliverables attached to this post include • Support the development of the current Professional Studies (Curriculum and Assessment), Mathematics Pedagogy and School Placement modules and the final year student Action Research projects to include the Computer Science Strand. • Enhance current links between the undergraduate concurrent education programmes and the other teacher education programmes in the School, including in the areas of Mathematics Methodology, Practitioner Research modules in the Professional Master of Education (PME) and school placement. • Support the concurrent teacher education programmes through school placement supervision. • Support the administrative aspects of the teacher education programmes in the School. • Contribute to the research activities of the School, particularly in terms of collaboration in School research projects, conferences and meetings, publications and grant preparation. A relevant PhD Degree, or progress towards a PhD degree, and teaching qualification are essential. The successful candidate will have teaching experience and the capacity to contribute to and support research projects to PhD level. In addition to the BA in Mathematics and Education, the School of Education currently offers the following programmes: a) ITE for post-primary education through the medium of both Irish and English at postgraduate Masters level; b) for the continuing professional development of experienced, practising educators, the School of Education offers a Postgraduate Diploma in Special Educational Needs (supported by the Department of Education and Skills), Postgraduate Diploma in Leading Learning (CPD framework) and the Master of Education, which combines coursework with thesis research; and c) Research programmes leading to PhD degrees.
