About the Role 

The Department of Comparative Literature and Culture, within the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film, is looking to appoint a suitably qualified Lecturer specialising in Arabic literature of any period from the Islamic Golden Age to the present day with a background in Comparative Literature. Applicants with demonstrated experience in translation studies and/or literary and cultural theory, would be especially welcome.

Duties will include research and publication, convening and teaching undergraduate modules on our BA in Comparative Literature, contributing to MA provision as appropriate, (co)-supervising PhD students, and undertaking administrative roles as required within the Department. The successful candidate will be able to develop their own modules in line with their specific research strength as well as contributing to team-taught comparative modules with a global literary emphasis. Evidence of high-quality research and publications in renowned journals is also expected. 

About You 

You will hold a PhD in Arabic and/or comparative literary studies or a relevant professional qualification or equivalent professional experience, and a native or near-native command of Modern Standard Arabic, together with the ability to deliver teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues, good organisational and communicative skills are also essential.

The post is full time and permanent, with an expected start date of 1 September 2021. The starting salary will be Grade 5, in the range of £42,433 - £44,807 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
