Part-time Lecturer: Master of Arts in Teaching—Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MAT–TESOL) Program: EDUC 656

Rossier School of Education Faculty Los Angeles, California

The mission of the USC Rossier School of Education is to prepare leaders to achieve educational equity through practice, research and policy. We work to improve learning opportunities and outcomes in urban settings and to address disparities that affect historically marginalized groups. We teach our students to value and respect the cultural context of the communities in which they work and to interrogate the systems of power that shape policies and practices. Through innovative thinking and research, we strive to solve the most intractable educational problems.

USC Rossier School of Education seeks applicants for a Part-Time Faculty Instructor to teach a graduate-level course, EDUC 656: Applied Linguistics for English Language Educators. Applicants should possess a deep understanding of applied linguistics as it relates to language teaching and learning. This includes understanding various systems of the English language, language from a holistic perspective of discourse, and language in use in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The ideal candidate will be an equity-oriented professional with a robust understanding of SLA theory and pedagogy. Working closely with the Course Coordinator of the course, the Part-Time Faculty Instructor is responsible for supporting student learning, implementing the course curriculum, attending regularly scheduled weekly faculty meetings, providing daily/weekly communication to students, offering regularly scheduled office hours, and complying with program-level operations requests, school-level policies, and university-level guidelines.

Part-Time Faculty: USC reserves the “Part-time Faculty” appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time who are not employed full-time in a primary position or career elsewhere.

USC is an equal-opportunity educator and employer, proudly pluralistic and firmly committed to providing equal opportunity for outstanding persons of every race, gender, creed and background. The university particularly encourages members of underrepresented groups, veterans and individuals with disabilities to apply. USC will make reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with known disabilities unless doing so would result in an undue hardship.
