If you previously applied for this position your application is under consideration and it is not necessary to reapply.The Department of Religious Studies and Classics at the University of Arizona is accepting applications for a Lecturer in Classics. The Department is seeking candidates with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence. The successful candidate will teach General Education courses for a diverse undergraduate student population. The initial duties will consist primarily of teaching sections of introductory-level Classical mythology courses for the University of Arizona’s General Education curriculum. The initial teaching load likely will include one online Classical mythology course during an accelerated session (10/17/2019 – 12/11/2019), as well as at least one in-person Classical mythology course held during the regular semester (08/26/2019 – 12/11/2019). • Teaching 4 courses per semester based on department needs
• Holding office hours
• Preparing teaching materials independently and collaboratively
• Attending meetings and/or events as requested
• Actively recruiting Classics majors and minors
• Actively recruiting students to departmental courses in Classical Greek and Latin
• Contributing to departmental efforts to develop innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement and fostering diversity and inclusive excellence
• Additional duties may be assignedKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Classics or closely related field in hand by August 1, 2019
• Professional-level English
• Experience teaching Classics at the university levelPreferred Qualifications
• Experience teaching Classical Mythology and other Classics courses typically offered for undergraduates
• Experience with online teaching, and/or a willingness and ability to develop an online course in line with University of Arizona online pedagogy standards (based on “Quality Matters”).Rank Lecturer
