The School of Languages, Linguistics and Film is looking to appoint to a Lectureship in Comparative Literature to deliver teaching and assessment across undergraduate and, as appropriate, taught postgraduate programmes. Duties will include convening and teaching undergraduate modules, contributing to MA provision as appropriate, (co)-supervising PhD students, co-supervision for UG research projects and undertaking administrative roles as required within the Department of Comparative Literature. You will also be expected to teach on some of the following modules, including, but not restricted to: Understanding Culture (first year), The Scene of Reading (second year), Facts and Fictions of Climate Change (second year).


You will hold a PhD in Comparative Literature or a field related to Literary Studies, and / or relevant professional qualification and / or equivalent professional experience, together with the ability to deliver teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Preference may be given to candidates with a background in Chinese literature and/or environmental humanities. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues and good organizational and communication skills are also essential.


The post is full time and fixed term for 10 months, with an expected start date of 1 September 2019. Starting salary will be £41,682 per annum. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.


This post is available as a result of staff leave and it is expected that you will hold it for the full period. However, should the post-holder on leave exercise their right to return to work earlier, then this appointment will end, subject to a notice period of one month.


Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
