General Description

The Johns Hopkins University School of Education (SOE) invites applications for a Lecturer in the Counseling and Educational Studies Department, beginning August 1, 2021 for a one-year appointment. SOE offers two counseling tracks, School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and a graduate certificate program. The School of Education ranks #15 among the nation's finest graduate education programs according to the latest ranking from U.S. News and World Report.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach eight (8) courses per year.
  • Supervise and advise students.
  • Provide leadership and service in the program.
  • Maintain active membership and involvement with an appropriate counseling professional organization (i.e., ACA, MCA, ACES, ASCA, etc.).
  • Participate in program development and accreditation activities, including the ongoing assessment of the program, curriculum, and student learning.
  • Participate in professional service at the school, university, state, regional, and national levels.

The candidate may be required to teach in both a traditional and distance learning format.


Requirements for the position include:

  • A doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accredited program.
  • Completion of all doctoral requirements prior to employment.
  • Full-time professional counseling and supervisory experience.
  • Either eligibility as a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) or school counseling certification in Maryland.
  • Ability to successfully teach in a highly diverse urban setting with a high population of international students.
  • Knowledge of the CACREP standards and process.

  • During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.
  • The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
