Lecturer in Education 

The Department of Education at the University of Jyväskylä is seeking to recruit staff for the position of senior lecturer in early childhood education as of 1 January 2024 until further notice.

Tasks and qualifications

The duties of the lecturer include teaching early childhood education, supervising theses and internships, research-based pedagogical development work and participating in international research and development activities. The position requires an applicable doctoral degree.

The position requires experience in research in the field of early childhood education linked to the University of Jyväskylä’s areas of focus in educational sciences. Teaching and research experience in early childhood education in areas such as sustainable education and care, work and interaction environments, pedagogy and pedagogical leadership is regarded as an advantage.

Qualifications as a kindergarten or early childhood education teacher, experience in thesis supervision, early childhood education teacher training and education development are also considered an advantage.

The Senior Lecturer’s duties as well as required qualifications and language skills are specified in the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language proficiency guidelines. The selected person is required to have a command of the Finnish language. When considered appropriate, the University may grant an exemption from the language proficiency requirements. Good English skills and the ability to teach in English are regarded as an advantage.

The annual salary range will be approximately 47 400 – 64 800EUR (gross income, including holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

The position will begin with a trial period of six months.

  2. A publication list drawn up according to the guidelines of the Academy of Finland.
  3.  A maximum of five (5) main publications, numbered in accordance with the list of publications (as a single PDF) or A document "selected publications" with only links to the selected publications (maximum of five)
  4. A brief (2 to 3 pages) written account of pedagogical training and teaching merits (teaching portfolio)
  5.  A short (1 to 2 pages) written account of the applicant’s research work and scientific merits.
  6. 6) A short description (1 or 2 pages) of your strengths and development directions in relation to the content of the position’s field.
