Lecturer in English
University of Pennsylvania

Description

The Urban Teaching Apprenticeship Program at the University of Pennsylvania is recruiting a part-time lecturer to teach the course “Differentiating Instruction for English Language Learners.” This course provides teacher candidates with dispositions and strategies to differentiate instruction for English language learners from culturally diverse populations. It also provides a basis for candidates to collaborate with school staff who support ELL students. Candidates will develop a skill set of inclusive, instructional techniques aligned with the sheltered instruction observation protocol (SIOP), the WIDA assessment framework, and other pedagogies that support language learning in the content areas.

The Urban Teaching Apprenticeship master's program is a practice-focused program that prepares new teachers to enact student-centered learning and to use innovative teaching tools in urban schools, premised on the belief that children are curious, creative, and competent. Coursework and intensive field experiences build on content expertise and support the development of pedagogical content knowledge. Teachers leave the program inspired to use the power of teaching to deepen student learning, transform schools, and increase educational equity.
