Position Summary
The Department of English at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis invites applications for a Lecturer in English with expertise in 19th and 20th century British Literature and a specialization in high-impact teaching practices. This ten-month, renewable, non-tenure track appointment begins August 1, 2020. This position is benefits-eligible with the opportunity for two levels of promotion. This candidate is a versatile, innovative teacher with pedagogical experience in both traditional and online environments. We seek a teacher with experience and expertise in developing high-impact practices including undergraduate research, civic engagement, service learning, and other practices designed to help students foster connections between their coursework and their development as citizens. Such practices align with IUPUI’s mission to advance the intellectual growth of its citizens to the highest levels nationally and internationally through research and creative activity, teaching and learning, and civic engagement.

Responsibilities include:
• Teach twelve (12) credit hours per semester, including introductory-level core curriculum literature courses in face-to-face and online environments, survey courses in British literature, and additional courses in one or more of the following interdisciplinary areas: LGBTQ+, Latinx, African American, Native American, Asian American, or children’s literature.
• Contribute to the department’s efforts on student recruitment, retention, and success.
• Active participation in program and department committees, functions, and operations along with other school and/or campus service duties, and multi-section course coordination responsibilities.
• Ability to work in a collegial setting. The Department is looking for teachers who will contribute to our commitment to engage the city, state, nation and beyond through teaching and service, in consideration of the rich diversity of our campus and city as we prepare our graduates to enter and lead in an increasingly complex world.

Basic Qualifications
Required: An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) or ABD in English or other closely-related discipline from an accredited institution; documented evidence of excellence in teaching literature at the post-secondary level; experience in online teaching and in using technology in face-to-face courses; developing innovative approaches that support and enhance student learning and success; evidence of successful mentoring at all levels including first-generation and/or minority students; documented ability to incorporate a global perspective and commitment to issues of diversity in higher education.
