Position description

The Department of Film and Media Studies at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for part-time lecturer position(s) to teach on cinematography and/or sound topics in upper division undergraduate courses in Production in Film and Media Studies. Topics may include 1) Cinematography, 2) Sound: Production and Post-Production during the winter and spring quarters of 2021-2022 academic year. The full-time teaching load in the School of Humanities is eight courses per year; the annual full-time salary is $56,381.00, and the salary per course is $7,047.63.

Requirement: Applicants must have a MFA in Film Production or a related field in hand by June 30, 2021. preferred candidate will be an experienced practitioner with an MFA in Film Directing or Cinematography and/or Sound Production and Post-Production, with strong pedagogy expertise and professional contacts in industry, public, or independent media sectors, who will develop and teach cinematography-focused courses and/or sound-focused courses. Three years of university-level teaching experience in Film and Media Studies is preferred. Candidates with a specialization in community expression—that is, knowledge of the theory, practice, and history of community-based film movements—are especially welcomed. Candidates should be engaged in and committed to evolving media platforms and approaches to cinematography, sound, and media-making. Experience teaching the key competencies of cinematography is expected, i.e. digital camera systems, lighting, and set procedures, and/or key competencies of sound, i.e. digital sound recording, and sound editing.
