Description

During the autumn, winter, and spring quarters of the 2023-2024 academic year, the Humanities Collegiate Division and Department of Linguistics will have part-time teaching opportunities in American Sign Language.

 

Minimum qualifications are native or near-native proficiency in ASL (ASLPI proficiency level of 4 or better); at least a Bachelor’s degree in Sign Language Teaching, Deaf Studies, Linguistics, or closely related field; knowledge of Deaf Culture; and demonstrated experience with instructional technology. Teaching experience at the college level (ASLTA Certification will be considered) is strongly preferred but candidates applying directly from ASL-teaching graduate programs without prior college-level experience may be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who also have experience working with students with diverse backgrounds and/or who have challenges to learning.

 

Responsibilities will include teaching introductory or advanced language courses, holding office hours, advising students on projects in ASL, and participating in cultural activities designed to enhance the experience of students studying ASL and to help them learn about Deaf culture.

 

Depending on the curricular needs of the program, the successful candidate may teach between one and four courses per academic year. In 2023-24, the minimum per-course salary is $7,538. This position is not benefits eligible.
