The Lecturer in Media and Communication (Media and Society) will be responsible for teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The incumbent will be expected to teach into the Media and Communication foundation subjects, such as; 'Media and Society' and 'Understanding Media and Communication’. Other responsibilities include supervising honours and minor theses.

 

The Lecturer will be expected to have a strong track record of research and publications and the ability to contribute to the development of existing and future research projects, including externally funded research applications. Candidates with a social science background and strong grounding in media theory - including an ability to apply critical approaches to key contemporary debates with media and communication - are particularly encouraged to apply.

 

The successful candidate will foster engagement links with external networks/partners nationally and internationally and will be expected to take on administrative tasks associated with the appointment.

 

The Media and Communications Program at the University of Melbourne is the top-ranked program in Australia (QS 2018) and features a thriving research and teaching environment. The Program is rapidly expanding, after sustained growth in recent years. Media and Communications runs a very successful Major in the Bachelor of Arts and a number of highly successful Masters degrees, including Global Media Communication and Marketing Communication. It has research strengths in digital cultures, media theory, journalism studies, cyber security, marketing communications, and political communication. Media and Communication features both quantitative and qualitative researchers from across the social sciences and humanities.

 

The School of Culture and Communication is a thriving research hub for critical thinking in the humanities and social sciences. This agenda is led by world-leading scholars who span fields including Media and Communication, Journalism, Publishing, Screen and Cultural Studies, Creative Writing, English, Theatre, Australian Indigenous Studies, Art History and Curatorship. The School is host to several large research projects and centres, including the Centre for Advancing Journalism, the Research Unit in Public Cultures, and the Research Unit for Enlightenment, Romanticism and Contemporary Culture (ERCC).
