Lecturer in Pastoral Theology, Mission and Ministry

 

The Church of Ireland Theological Institute invites applications for a new role in Ministerial Formation within its committed academic team, to commence in the early summer of 2026. The ideal candidate will share the Institute’s ethos of integration between theological disciplines, commitment to ministerial formation through robust engagement between theory and practice, and openness to a community of collaborative learning. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and research, and embrace delivery in both blended and residential pathways.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching responsibilities on each of the residential and blended Masters in Theology Programmes, and the blended Certificate in Christian Theology and Practice;
  • Preparation and oversight of students undertaking Master’s dissertation projects;
  • Input into the formational curriculum for ordinands;
  • Academic administrative tasks and research activity commensurate with a post at this level.

 

Requirements:

 

Essential Criteria:

  • Completed or near completed PhD in a relevant theological discipline;
  • Demonstrable commitment to excellence, integration, and creativity in teaching and learning, including the modelling of reflective practice on experiential learning and student involvement in peer learning ;
  • Demonstrable commitment to ongoing research and publication;
  • Understanding of, and willingness to teach in, a denominational theological institution, and openness to students of varying backgrounds, theologies and commitments, including emerging movements and approaches (e.g. pioneer ministry, the Christian faith in the public square).

 

Desirable Criteria:

  • A priest in Anglican orders to enable preaching and presiding in chapel;
  • Ministerial experience and expertise in spiritual formation and mission;
  • Demonstrated ability to teach research, writing, and fieldwork methodologies;
  • Experience of teaching via distance-learning technologies;
  • Strong administrative capacity and an ability to manage complex systems.
