The role

 

The successful candidate will have obtained a very good honours degree and will have completed a doctorate in philosophy. The person appointed will have a research specialism in any area of philosophy that complements or adds to existing research strengths in the department and will already have demonstrated outstanding promise in their chosen field.

 

The successful candidate will work alongside existing staff in the delivery and design of the Open University’s undergraduate and postgraduate Philosophy curriculum.

 

More specifically, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the presentation and teaching of undergraduate modules such as A222: Exploring Philosophy and A333: Key Questions in Philosophy, postgraduate qualifications such as F30, the MA in Philosophy, the production of new modules or short courses and may be asked to help supervise doctoral students. Building towards the next REF exercise, the successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the school’s research profile and impact work.

 

The Lectureship is tenable for 16 months and is not renewable. Its tenure is incompatible with the holding of a University Lectureship or equivalent post elsewhere.

 

Main duties include:

 

Teaching

 

    Successfully contributing to the planning and development of Philosophy curricula; 


    Contributing to the successful presentation and development of other modules and qualifications associated with the Discipline of Philosophy;


 

Research and scholarship

 

    Enhancing the Department’s and Faculty’s research and scholarship profile through high quality research publications; 


 

    Working effectively and collaboratively to develop a shared research and scholarship culture; 


 

    Consistently contribute in positive ways to the development of a collegial and engaged academic community in the Department, Faculty and University, including by undertaking leadership and administrative roles as required.
