The Department aims to lay the ground for good health and sustainable development through research and education. Central themes within Food and Nutrition include eating habits, meals, the significance of food in relation to public health, as well as leadership and organization of restaurants and institutional households. Sport science covers a broad spectrum of physical activities, from exercise and health promotion to competitive and elite sports. A major part of the first-cycle education at the Department is within the physical education teacher programme, the sports coaching programme and the health promotion programme. On second-cycle, courses are offered so students can apply for a Master degree in Sport Science. From 2020 courses in Special sport for teacher students are planned to be offered.  The Department hosts one of the Swedish National Sports Universities (RIU) and the Center for Health and Performance (CHP).

Sports science with focus on physical education and health

 

Subject area description

Sport Science is a multidisciplinary subject spanning exercise and physical activity for health promotion as well as performance development in competitive sport.

 

The discipline Physical Education and Health deals with teaching and learning in the school subject Physical Education and Health. The focus is on didactics in relation to health, movement learning, and sport in their widest sense.

 

Job assignments

Main job assignments include teaching within Physical Education and Health, teacher education and didactics. Mainly the position deals with teaching within the areas of motion, rhythmics, dance and gymnastics for different ages, and motor skills. You will work in a team of teachers with responsibilities for teaching and developing Physical Education & Health and the courses within this subject as well as practicum internships. Didactics in relation to Physical Education & Health is central.

 

Eligibility

In accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, chapter 4, section 4:3, an individual is eligible for employment as lecturer if she/he has demonstrated teaching expertise, completed at least a second-cycle higher education course or study programme or has the corresponding competence or some other expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties it will involve is qualified for appointment as a lecturer.

 

A teacher education within Physical Education & Health, or equivalent, is required for this position.

 

Assessment

A teacher education within Physical Education & Health, or equivalent, is required for this position. Beside this, the candidate should have documented experience of teaching in primary, secondary or upper-secondary school and experience of teaching within teacher education at university is meriting. Experience in teaching within subject didactics within Physical Education & Health is meriting, specifically within motion, dance and gymnastics.

 

The applicant has undergone or is expected to undergo a course in academic teaching and learning or has documented evidence that they have acquired the equivalent knowledge.

 

Another basis for evaluation is the potential of research expertise. Such potential can be shown through the applicants Master thesis, documented experience of scientific work or PhD studies. Experience of scientific work should be relevant for Physical Education & Health.

 

Collaborative, organisational and administrative ability will be part of the basis for evaluation.
