The promising young academic will be appointed in a full time, permanent position at lecturer level on a six year developmental programme.  In the first three years of the programme, the appointee is given a reduced workload to allow him/her to complete a doctoral degree, if not yet completed by date of appointment. In addition, the appointee is mentored and supported as s/he is introduced to academic life particularly with regard to his/her teaching, research and engaged scholarship responsibilities.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide formal teaching and learning for undergraduate as well as postgraduate modules in Technology and/or Mechanical/Electrical/Civil Technology in schools and/or TVET colleges.
  • Participate in the work integrated learning programme of the faculty (teaching practice).
  • Ensure active involvement in research activities of the faculty and school.
  • Contribute to curriculum development in the field of Technology and/or Mechanical/Electrical/Civil Technology in schools and TVET colleges specifically.
  • Supervise and provide consultation sessions for undergraduate and/or postgraduate students.
  • Contribute to leadership and perform administrative tasks related to the discipline.

Inherent requirements:

  • A Master’s degree on NQF level nine (9) in Education with specialisation in teaching and learning in Technology and/or Mechanical/Electrical/Civil Technology in schools. Candidates should submit an abstract of their thesis or dissertation to indicate relevance to Technology Education.
  • Registration for a Doctoral degree in Education, if not yet attained by the time of appointment. The studies should have Technology Education as a research focus. Candidates must attach official proof of advanced registration towards a PhD, if already registered

Recommendations:

  • A minimum of two (2) years’ relevant teaching experience in a school context
  • A relevant PhD will be advantageous.
  • Tutoring, facilitation or research experience.

01 January 2021.
