Position description

The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at UCLA seeks applications for the position of a Lecturer in Turkish language.

The candidate must have an M.A. in Turkish or Turkic Studies, Near Eastern Languages (with a specialty in Turkish language and literature), or applied linguistics; a Ph.D. is preferred. The candidate should also have native or near-native proficiency in Turkish, including familiarity with Ottoman Turkish. Extensive experience and demonstrated excellence in college-level Turkish language teaching at all levels to diverse groups of students are required. Candidates with specialized training in second language acquisition and pedagogy and familiarity with communicative methods of language instruction, including online language teaching, are especially encouraged to apply.

The position will be expected to teach a total of six courses over the 2022–2023 academic year. The courses encompass elementary and intermediate, as well as third year advanced Turkish.

Appointment details:

October 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023
75% time appointment

  • Fall 2022: TURK 101A Elementary Turkish and TURK 102A Advanced Turkish
  • Winter 2023: TURK 101B Elementary Turkish and TURK 102B Advanced Turkish
  • Spring 2023: TURK 101C Elementary Turkish and TURK 102C Advanced Turkish

Responsibilities will include coordination of Turkish language instruction, active participation in curricular development, and supervision of teaching assistants.
