Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Folklore and Ethnology, UCD School of Irish, Celtic Studies and Folklore (Permanent)

Applications are invited for a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Folklore and Ethnology post within UCD School of Irish, Celtic Studies and Folklore.


Candidates should have an established record of expertise in the study of Folklore and Ethnology. They should have completed a PhD in Folklore or a cognate discipline and have experience of teaching at university level. While the position is primarily associated with Irish expressions of vernacular culture, the essentially global nature of Folklore and Ethnology as an academic discipline and its interdisciplinary potential is recognised by the School in its teaching and research activities.


Preference will be given to candidates with lecturing and teaching experience in the following areas: material culture, traditional music and/or ethnomusicology, oral narrative, popular belief and practice including folk religion, and social tradition. In addition, the candidate's record should indicate a thorough knowledge of folkloristic theory, approaches and methods with some experience of studying folklore in an international context.


The appointee will be expected to participate effectively in the School's postgraduate and undergraduate programmes and contribute significantly to the expansion of research in relevant areas.


Lecturer / Assistant Professor Below the Bar Salary Scale: € 33,479- € 58,760
Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
