About This Opportunity 

The University of Queensland’s School of Education has an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer (three positions available) to teach in the School’s Initial Primary Teacher Education programs (undergraduate and postgraduate), as well as perform administrative, service and leadership roles commensurate with their level of appointment. The successful appointees will have the capacity to pursue a strong and productive program of research relevant to the School’s existing and emerging research priorities and to supervise research students.

Our priority areas of expertise are:

  • Primary Mathematics and/or STEM Education
  • Primary English/Literacy Education
  • Primary Science Education

Key responsibilities will include: 


  • Develop, co-ordinate and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the School’s Initial Teacher Education programs.
  • Develop, co-ordinate and manage academic programs and projects as required
  • Teach across different settings and actively contribute towards educational practice and innovative curriculum design including online learning and alternative teaching methods.
  • Participate in and lead School-wide activities and planning related to teaching and learning;
  • Effectively supervise honours and higher degree by research students.
  • Provide high quality service to students, including academic counselling and advice.
  • Understand and apply University Rules relevant to teaching and learning practice.


  • Conduct a productive program of research in an area relevant to your expertise and to the priorities of the School;
  • Apply for external research funding and work collaboratively with researchers within the School and across the University;
  • Publish high quality scholarly journal articles, reports, book chapters, monographs and texts;
  • Present research work at relevant conferences and other professional and community forums.

Citizenship and Service

  • Actively develop partnerships by fostering relationships with organisational units in the University, industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community;
  • Provide leadership and support within the teaching profession;
  • Contribute to the School’s links with community, industry, government and professional organisations and groups;
  • Promote the School’s research and teaching programs;
  • Contribute to the processes that enable the academic team to manage the work of the School, including participate in School decision-making and serve on School committees; and
  • Perform a range of administrative functions in the School including representing the School in marketing campaigns such as TSXPO and Open Day.
  • Provide support to other academic positions as needed and during absences.
  • Consistently demonstrates the UQ values.

About You

Applicants should possess a PhD in Education and tertiary preparation in their area of specialisation.

Additionally, successful Level B candidates will demonstrate:

  • An ability and enthusiasm for engaging in high quality teaching in Initial Teacher Education programs, including all aspects of teaching practice: curriculum design, development of learning materials, analysis of learning needs of students, identification of appropriate approaches to teaching, and development of formative and summative assessment appropriately linked to learning goals. Evidence of teaching evaluations is required.
  • Evidence of a contribution to research, with an established record of publications in high quality outlets and successful external grant applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously and collaboratively within a team, while maintaining an individual profile in a research area and contributing to the collegial life of the School;
  • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership on academic projects and administration;
  • Ability to develop online course materials and to use alternative modes of teaching, digital technologies, and flexible learning options.
  • A growing record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.
  • Hold, or be eligible to hold, a valid Queensland Government Blue Card
  • Hold, or be eligible to hold, a valid teacher registration with the Queensland College of Teachers.

In addition to the above, successful Level C candidates will demonstrate:

  • An established profile in teaching and research in the discipline area.
  • National recognition in the area of expertise, with an internationally developing profile and an established record of publications in reputed refereed journal and presenting at conferences.
  • A strong record of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.
  • Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level across a variety of settings, including small and large groups.
  • A strong track record of course coordination and participation in the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area.
  • A solid record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.
  • A growing record of meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with a strong contribution to external activities.


What We Can Offer 

This is a full-time, continuing position at Academic Level B/C.

The full-time equivalent base salary at Level B will be in the range AUD$101,533 - $120,570, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range AUD$118,794 - $141,067.

The full-time equivalent base salary at Level C will be in the range AUD$124,378 - $143,415, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range of AUD$145,522 - $167,796.
