The School’s Education programs and research agendas have focused on driving state and national educational innovation and reform. The School currently offers the following teacher preparation programs: one four-year Bachelor of Education (Primary Years), a range of Bachelor of Education (Secondary) Dual Degrees, a Master of Teaching (Primary) and a Master of Teaching (Secondary). It also offers professional development opportunities via its suite of postgraduate coursework programs and has a vibrant postgraduate research community.

The School’s staff are internationally cited and recognised for outstanding work in such fields as sociology and policy studies in education, educational psychology and learning sciences, inclusive education, literacy and numeracy, pedagogy and school reform and leadership. About This Opportunity

We are currently seeking three Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professors in Education to contribute to teaching, research and service. The appointees will be expected to teach in the School’s Initial Teacher Education programs (primary and/or secondary) and postgraduate program in areas relevant to their expertise, as well as perform administrative, service and leadership roles commensurate with their level of appointment. The appointee should have a track record of leadership in education. The successful appointee will have the capacity to pursue a strong and productive program of research relevant to the School’s existing and emerging research priorities and to supervise research students.

Our priority areas of expertise are:

  1. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Education 
  2. Educational Psychology/Science of Learning
  3. English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) and TESOL
  4. Supporting Diverse Learners/Inclusive Education
  5. Primary English/Literacy

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

Alongside the completion of a PhD in the area of Education and tertiary preparation in their area of specialisation, the successful applicants will hold or be eligible to hold a valid Queensland Government Blue Card and a valid teacher registration with the Queensland College of Teachers, along with the following:

Successful Level B candidates will demonstrate:

  • Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for engaging in high quality teaching in the Initial Teacher Education programs and a field of study in the postgraduate coursework programs. The response should address all aspects of teaching practice, including curriculum design, development of learning materials, analysis of learning needs of students, identification of appropriate approaches to teaching, and development of formative and summative assessment appropriately linked to learning goals. Ability to develop online course materials and to use alternative modes of teaching, digital technologies, and flexible learning options. Evidence of teaching evaluations is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously and collaboratively within a team, while maintaining an individual profile in a research area and contributing to the collegial life of the School.
  • Evidence of a contribution to research, with an established record of publications in high quality outlets and successful external grant applications.
  • An ability to establish effective relationships and to represent and promote academic discipline at a university and wider community level, including industry, government and professional bodies.

In addition to the essentials for Level B above, Level C candidates must have the following:

  • A developing international profile for research evidenced by an outstanding record of publication in high-ranking refereed journals and other research outlets.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating undergraduate and/or postgraduate coursework programs including leadership of staff in implementing pedagogical innovations, managing the expectations of the student cohort, and developing appropriate marketing strategies to build the program.
  • An active and effective record in principal supervision of Higher Degree Research students.
  • An emerging track record of applications for external research funds, especially grants and fellowships, and other research project funding.

In addition to the essentials for Level B/C above, Level D candidates must have the following:

  • A developed international profile for research evidenced by an outstanding record of publication in high-ranking refereed journals and other research outlets.
  • An established track record of successful applications for external research funds, especially grants and fellowships, and other research project funding.
  • Experience in leadership of effective undergraduate and postgraduate coursework teaching (tutoring, lecturing, course coordination, preparing and delivering courses)
  • An active and effective record of principal supervision of Higher Degree Research students through to successful completion.
  • An established track record of effective mentoring of junior academics and researchers.
  • Experience of key leadership roles at a school, faculty or university level.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, continuing position at Academic Level B/C/D (level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications, experience and academic achievements). We have three positions available.

The full-time equivalent base salary at Level B will be in the range $99,542 - $118,206, plus super of up to 17% (total FTE package will be in the range of $116,465 - $138,301).

The full-time equivalent base salary at Level C will be in the range $121,939 - $140,603, plus super of up to 17% (total FTE package will be in the range of $142,669 - $164,506).

The full-time equivalent base salary at Level D will be in the range $146,824 - $161,756, pus super of up to 17% (total FTE package will be in the range of $171,784 - $189,254).
