Position Description

The Faculty of Arts, Department of Classics and Religion invites applications for an Instructor (two-year, limited term) in the area of Ancient Medicine and Technology. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2019. 


The successful applicant is expected to teach seven undergraduate courses per year and to facilitate and expand existing collaborations within Arts and with faculties outside of Arts (particularly medicine and engineering). Further to this, mentoring students, commitment to departmental and university service, and engagement with the community is expected. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of teaching effectiveness and engagement with students, as well as a demonstrated record of collaborations across disciplines.


The position requires a PhD in Classics. Applicants must have demonstrated expertise in teaching undergraduate courses in medical/scientific terminology, ancient medicine, and ancient technology. The candidate should also have experience successfully managing large sections of introductory courses.
