Position Description

The Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) invites applications for positions in International Education and Development, at the rank of Assistant Professor of Education, Associate Professor of Education (untenured), or Professor of Education.

We seek candidates who have strong training in education or a social science discipline and who conduct rigorous research with the goal of improving education and educational equity in developing countries. Topical areas of interest include but are not limited to: the evaluation and monitoring of educational initiatives in developing countries; the comparative study of education systems, programs, and policy; education in emergency or conflict situations; and social entrepreneurship and leadership in international development. We invite researchers who use quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods research methodologies. We especially encourage applications from women and minorities.

At HGSE, our mission is to conduct high-quality research on issues related to education, and to teach, advise, and mentor a diverse community of graduate students, both at the doctoral and master’s levels. We therefore seek candidates with excellent pedagogical skills, including the ability to clearly communicate sophisticated research to heterogeneous audiences. The selected candidate(s) will be expected to teach and advise master’s students in the International Education Policy program and doctoral students with international research interests, many of whom are interested in policies, programs, and practices. 

Basic Qualifications

As appropriate for rank, successful candidates will have an excellent record of rigorous scholarship and a commitment to teaching and mentoring. Candidates for a junior faculty appointment will be considered if they will complete all requirements for the doctorate by the start of the 2016-17 academic year.

Applicants at the Assistant level should provide three letters of recommendation.
