Work duties

A postdoctoral position is a fixed-term career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career and shall give the applicant an opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher as well as create conditions to gain further credentials as a researcher.

The main duty of a postdoctoral position is to conduct research.

This postdoctoral position involves research within the field of theatre and performance, and in particular Malmö Theatre Academy seeks a fellow whose research addresses the interplay between contemporary performing arts and their socio-political contexts and implications. The postdoc research position aims to develop critical methodologies and reflections related to one or more of the following research areas: displacement, migration, race, gender, post-colonial and decolonial histories and practices, participation, community development, human rights and activism. Malmö Theatre Academy is seeking a performing artist who will link artistic research and practice with social engagement outside of the academy.

The position includes the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning. Teaching may also be included in the position, but will comprise no more than 20 percent of working hours.

Qualification requirements

The applicant must have a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. Proof that this qualification requirement has been met must be submitted when the decision of employment is made, at the latest.

In addition to artistic research at a prominent level, the applicant must have a proven track-record of artistic practice at an international level.

The position requires very good oral and written proficiency in English.

Assessment criteria

Postdoctoral appointments are subject to the following assessment criteria:

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high-quality research and artistic practice
  • Teaching ability

The selection process will prioritise applicants who have completed their PhDs within the last three years. Please note that this is an assessment criterion, not a requirement.

Particular emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s artistic ability. Additionally, the assessment of the applicant is based on the qualifications profile established for the position, according to the following assessment criteria:

  • Quality of artistic works and its relation to the research project’s focus and/or research methods
  • Credentials that prove the applicant’s ability to carry out complex artistic and/or research tasks in the field of performing arts.
  • Credentials that prove the applicant’s ability to work well in interdisciplinary collaborations or other relevant collaborations

Extensive, hands-on experience with community-based art practices will be considered meritorious.

Terms of employment

This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of at least two years and at most three years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the recently concluded agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor 2022-02-01” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a postdoctoral fellow 2022-02-01”).
