Postdoctoral Research Fellow position

The Department of Philosophy has a vacant three year Postdoctoral Fellowship in philosophy. The starting date for the fellowship is 1 January 2020. However, if the person hired is interested, both an additional fourth year devoted to teaching and supervision and/or a later start date may be negotiated.

 

Qualification requirements:

Applicants must have completed a Norwegian PhD degree or equivalent in philosophy by the application deadline. The doctoral dissertation must have been submitted for evaluation within the closing date of the application and it is a condition of appointment that the PhD has been awarded.

 

The applicant must provide a project proposal with a progress plan for the project's main activities, and a plan for publishing results in recognized international channels.

 

Academic quality is the main criterion for assessing applicants. If two or more applicants have equivalent qualification, the academic needs of the department can be decisive when applicants are ranked and recommended.

 

Consideration will only be given to candidates whose research projects fit within one of the established research groups at the Department.

 

About the position of postdoctoral research fellow:

The position of postdoctoral research fellow is a fixed-term appointment with the primary objective of qualifying the appointee for work in top academic positions. The fixed-term period for this position is 3 or 4 years.

 

Applicants shall put forward a proposal for a project for qualifying work. The proposal shall include a progress plan. It is a premise that the selected candidate will complete the project within the stipulated period of employment.

 

An optional fourth year consists mainly of teaching, supervision, tutoring and examination work for the mandatory first year philosophy course ”Examen philosophicum”, which all students at the University of Bergen must complete. To qualify for the optional forth year the candidate must master Norwegian when this work starts.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   

 

The successful applicant is expected to have the University of Bergen as his or her regular workplace and conform to the regulations that apply to the position.

 

Candidates cannot be employed as a postdoctoral fellow for more than one fixed term period at the same institution.

The enclosures can be submitted as Word- or pdf-files.

 

Copies of academic publications (if any), higher education certificates and diplomas must be accompanied by a translation into English, Norwegian, Swedish or Danish if not written in any of these languages. The documentation and translations must be uploaded within the deadline of application.

 

The best qualified applicants will be invited to an interview before the final recommendation. They may also be asked to give a trial lecture.
