The Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) undertakes transformational, solution-focused research to address new and emerging challenges facing Australian society. ISSR is an international leader in advanced interdisciplinary and evidence-based social science research, and works collaboratively with government and the private and not-for-profit sectors on pressing social science challenges across four key impact areas: the Social Science of Policy and Practice, Health, Education and Innovation and Technology.

About the Opportunity

We are currently seeking a dedicated Researcher to undertake research and evaluation activities on how policy co-design and co-production can help better define policy problems; broker new ideas, expertise, partnerships and resources; and translate research into more effective policy solutions.

The successful applicant will be primarily responsible for projects with a focus on tackling the cycles of disadvantage and will be encouraged to participate in a range of new and ongoing multidisciplinary and cross-organisational projects.

General duties and responsibilities also include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead or contribute to development of funding proposals, including evaluation and research grant applications and contract research tenders.
  • Communicate research findings to external stakeholders, including preparing and presenting reports and research outcomes to research partners, and participating in industry engagement activities and academic conferences.
  • Ensure that projects are delivered in compliance with all relevant contractual, regulatory and policy requirements, including ethics, integrity, privacy, data security and intellectual property obligations.

This position is located at our Long Pocket Precinct in Indooroopilly.

Our Ideal Candidate

Alongside the completion of a PhD in a field applicable to addressing key social problems, including but not limited to social sciences, we are seeking candidates with the following skills and experience: 

  • Excellent knowledge, skills and demonstrated expertise in policy-oriented research including quantitative and qualitative methods, implementation science, participatory approaches, and stakeholder engagement.
  • A profile in research, participating in applications for external research funding support and publishing in high-quality outlets.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary research teams across multiple parties, building research expertise over time.
  • Exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences and grant writing and dissemination.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for up to 2 years at Research Academic Level A or B, dependant on level of experience.

The full-time equivalent base salary for a Level A will be in the range $85,300 - $94,637, plus super of up to 17% (the total FTE package will be in the range $99,801 - $110,726).

The full-time equivalent base salary for a Level B will be in the range $99,542 - $118,206, plus super of up to 17% (the total FTE package will be in the range $116,465 - $138,301).
