Applications are invited for a Pre-doctoral Research Fellow in Economics at the Global Priorities Institute (GPI).

You will conduct economics research within guidelines provided by the Assistant Director of GPI, as well as contributing to the planning of the Global Priorities Institute’s economics research and the organisational development of our research group. You will manage your own research and administrative activities, within guidelines provided by the Assistant Director of the Institute. You will also provide research assistance to GPI researchers and faculty in the Department of Economics. For research assistance, we will try to match the successful candidate with a faculty member with related research interests, with possible faculty sponsors including Miguel Ballister, Ian Jewitt, Alan Beggs, Hamish Low, Abi Adams, Willemien Kets and Alex Teytelboym.

You will be a member of GPI’s growing economics research team. GPI sits formally within the Faculty of Philosophy but you will engage closely with Oxford’s Department of Economics, one of the world’s leading economics departments. You will have access to open plan desk space in the Department of Economics, and will have the opportunity to attend seminars and to enrol in an Economics MPhil graduate option course, subject to approval. The role offers an opportunity for those considering working towards a doctorate in economics to build invaluable experience in research at a world leading Institution.

The postholder is required to have a first degree in economics or a closely related discipline, together with some relevant experience. Also essential is outstanding academic ability, an ability to manage your own research and excellent communication skills. In addition, the fellow must possess an interest in global priorities research and an interest in pursuing economics research at the doctorate level.

The post is fixed-term from the date of appointment for 1 or 2 years depending on your preference, and is anticipated to start in September 2019 (flexible). Subject to UK tax regulations and the availability of funding, a relocation allowance may be available to support with a move to Oxford.

Applications for this post are to be made online.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 15 February 2019.
