The University of Freiburg has been granted 19 Tenure-Track Professorships from the Tenure-Track Programme and now invites applications in the context of this programme for the Tenure-Track Professorship for Education and Socialization at the Faculty of Economics and Behavioral Sciences in the Department of Educational Science to be filled as soon as possible but not later than 31 May 2023.

This is a grade W1-professorship to which performance payments can be offered.

This professorship is suitable for highly qualified early career researchers at an early stage in their careers. Conditions governing the appointment in accordance with section 51 (3) LHG apply. The appointment of the tenure-track professorship requires the eligibility of the appointed person in the Joint Federal Government-Länder Tenure-Track Programme for Junior Academics ( The appointment has to adhere to the requirements and deadlines of the Tenure-Track Programme.

The field of Education and Socialization has recently successfully raised Federal Funding and contributes significantly to the co-operation with the Freiburg University of Education.

The future holder of this position should have experience on an international level in conducting research in the field of socialization from the perspective of education or developmental and pedagogical psychology. We are seeking a person who examines processes of cognitive or socio-emotional development of students or the actions undertaken by teachers to improve such developmental processes. The main focus of research could be on: (1) socialization of gender-related disparities, (2) dealing with cultural and origin-based diversity, (3) promoting learning in schools of students with learning disabilities (e.g., dyslexia), behavioral disorders (e.g., ADHD), and developmental disorders (e.g., autism), (4) development of identity and personality in adolescence, and (5) communication and solution of conflicts in school-related contexts (e.g., prevention and intervention in case of bullying). The future holder of this position applies quantitative research methods (e.g., longitudinal analyses, growth curve models, experimental methods) and preferably has experience in third-party funding and international publishing.

Prerequisites for the employment are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record.This. position is a fixed term of four years. After a successful interim evaluation, it will be extended by two years. Furthermore, the tenure procedure towards Full Professorship W3 will be initiated after successful interim evaluation.

The tenure procedures are regulated in the Statutes and Quality Assurance Concept for Junior Professorships and Tenure-Track Professorships and agreed upon with the Ministry of Science ( As a prerequisite for granting tenure and the subsequent conversion into a full professorship (W3) (1) the requirements defined in the Statutes and Quality Assurance Concept have to be met and (2) the subject specific criteria determined by the Faculty of Economics and Behavioral Sciences have to be met.
