Professorship in Inclusive Education and Communication Difficulties
salary scale W2 (m/f/x)

with a starting date as soon as possible.

As part of the implementation of inclusive education, the state of Lower Saxony is providing considerable funding for the qualification of teaching staff to expand inclusive and special needs education teaching and research opportunities. The Institute of Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation is therefore being gradually expanded to include additional special needs education professorships. You will have the opportunity to actively participate in and help shape a dynamic development process in an appealing research and teaching environment.

This professor shall further develop the profile of the School, 'Participation and Education', and of the Institute, 'Participation and Dropout in Education and Rehabilitation', with their own empirical contributions in research. Furthermore, the successful applicant shall support research initiatives in the network of educational sciences and subject didactics, especially under the umbrella of the Centre for Teacher Training and Didactics (DiZ).

For those with a research focus on the link between speech and hearing, the Centre of Excellence for Hearing Research provides excellent opportunities for involvement and participation with the "Hearing4all" project (https://uol.de/exzellenzzentrum-fuer-hoerforschung).

We are looking for applicants with scientific credentials and an international profile who have experience in teaching and research in the subject area of inclusive education for speech and communicative difficulties in at least one of the following areas:

  • diagnostics, evidence-based support and didactics for students with pragma-communicative impairments;
  • diagnostics, evidence-based support and didactics for students with speech impairments associated with profound developmental disorders, genetic syndromes or hearing disorders;
  • diagnostics, evidence-based support and didactics for participation and involvement in education processes with limited linguistic-communicative competences. 

Proven experience in the independent acquisition and implementation of third-party funding projects is required. Applicants should have also published relevant articles in national and international journals.

Participation in interdisciplinary collaborative or joint projects and international experience in research and teaching are required. Furthermore, practical experience with special needs education support in schools or outside schools is desirable.

Teaching duties include representing the subject area of inclusion and communication difficulties in the Bachelor’s degree programme in Special Needs Education and the Master of Education degree programme in Special Needs Education.

As the University of Oldenburg and the University of Bremen are bound by a cooperation agreement, active participation in the cooperation is expected.

Prerequisites for employment are specified in section 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG). Applicants must have completed a university degree in special needs education with a specialisation in language and communication or have an equivalent qualification (e.g., rehabilitation with a specialisation in special needs speech and language education, academic linguistics or speech sciences).

Professorships with a functional description involving duties in education science or didactics can only be filled with candidates who can additionally provide evidence of at least three years of practical experienceat a school or suitable pedagogical experience, or appropriate empirical research experience corresponding to these duties.
