The Faculty of History, Arts and Oriental Studies seeks to fill the following professorship from 1 October 2021:

W2 Professorship in Art Education / Art Didactics

The main focus of this position is to provide full training in art education and art didactics in addition to theory of art and design for the teaching profession at primary and secondary level I and II, as well as in remedial and supplementary schools.

Furthermore, the post includes the corresponding training for the educational path of extracurricular art education (BA/MA).

The comprehensive art education and didactic tasks in teaching, in connection with theory of art and design, include the supervision of academically and didactically based projects in cooperation with school and extracurricular educational and cultural institutions.

An essential contribution to theory building is to be made with the continuous supervision and the assessment of qualification projects / theses.

In particular, intensive participation is required in the BMBF project “OFFENE-KUNST-Praxis als nachhaltiges Angebot der kulturellen Bildung im ländlichen Raum” (“Open Art Practice as a Sustainable Offer of Cultural Education in Rural Areas”).

We are looking for a person distinguished by outstanding achievements in art education.  

In addition to the first and second state examinations in art education, the applicant must have at least three years of professional experience in teaching at a school, preferably at a secondary school (Gymnasium), and must have proven their specialised academic knowledge with their PhD.

The expected teaching and research profile also includes aspects of museum-related pedagogic activities or extracurricular mediation of art.

Furthermore, an additional academic achievement is expected such as a habilitation, a junior professorship, or an academic activity equivalent to a habilitation.

Moreover, regular publications and conference contributions on teaching and learning research in the field of art education are expected.

The job holder’s rights and obligations are regulated by the Saxon Freedom of Higher Education Act (SächsHSFG) and the Saxon Service Regulations for Higher Education Institutions (DAVOHS). Applicants must meet the requirements of Section 58 SächsHSFG.
