The Research Assistant will support a research project working to identify and report on effective practices within high-performing NSW public schools led by Professor Kim Beswick, Director of the Gonski Institute for Education and the Head of School of Education within the UNSW Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture. This role will involve qualitative data analysis and associated report writing.

About the role

  • Level 6; $62.82 per hour
  • Casual ongoing role until end of 2022
  • Hours dependent on availability

The Research Assistant works directly with the Project Manager, and reports to the project Chief Investigators, and has no direct reports. This position will be based in the School of Education, Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture.

Specific responsibilities for this role include:

  • Undertake specific research tasks under the guidance of a Project Manager or Chief Investigators.
  • Contribute to the development of research findings, including qualitative data analysis and associated report writing.
  • Assist with the coordination of research activities and actively contribute to research outputs to meet project milestones.
  • Analyse and respond with tact and discretion to unexpected and complicated issues and queries.
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

About the successful applicant
(Selection Criteria)

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience managing and analysing large qualitative datasets.
  • Experience using qualitative data analysis software such as NVIVO.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience interpreting and writing reports based on qualitative data.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to liaise effectively within a large team of researchers, as well as work independently.
  • High level organisational skills with proven ability to deal with multiple tasks, establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
