The Opportunity

Monash University Faculty of Information Technology is driven by a vision of using technology to achieve better social outcomes. As part of this unifying vision, the Department of Human Centred Computing examines the ways in which technology can synergise with people, working to achieve outcomes that are achieved by harmony rather than through conflict with human needs.

To that end, a Research Fellow is sought for this new role, who will contribute to research as part of an Australian Research Council funded Future Fellowship in “Generative Materialism”. Using innovative techniques that combine generative systems, advanced digital fabrication and the creative needs of modern design, this project seeks to boost human creativity by intelligently connecting the digital and physical processes of generative systems. The research will be undertaken in SensiLab, a bespoke creative technologies research laboratory specialising in interdisciplinary collaboration and research through making.

The project aims to develop advanced creative methods and systems for the next generation of digital design and fabrication technologies applied to applications in art, design and architecture. The successful applicant will have a PhD in Computational Design or similar discipline and demonstrated research achievements – including peer reviewed paper publications or curated exhibitions of their creative practice – that highlight the technical and creative aspects of generative systems.
