Research Associate (Fixed Term)



The Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge wishes to appoint a full-time Research Associate to work on an economics of education project funded by the Keynes Fund. The project is led by Professors Anna Vignoles and Simon Burgess, and is a collaboration between the University of Cambridge and the Department of Economics, University of Bristol. The project seeks to understand the school choices made by parents and will involve analysis of large-scale administrative data. The post-holder will undertake data collection and cleaning, mainly of information from school and local authority websites.


The post-holder is expected to fully engage with the research activities of this grant. In particular, they will be responsible for supporting the quantitative research needs of the project, with particular emphasis on data collection and cleaning, analysis of existing secondary data, and preparation of initial drafts of tables and publications.


The successful candidate will have a PhD in the Economics of Education and must have excellent quantitative methods. Applicants must have experience in statistical data preparation and analysis, including experience of Stata, with a strong understanding of statistical methods and modelling. Experience in related substantive issues, such as education inequalities, the determinants of children's academic achievement and the impact of schools on children's outcomes would be desirable. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders are essential.
