Position Summary

Dr. Eunsoo Cho ( in the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology, and Special Education ( seeks a post-doctoral research associate to work on an IES-funded project ( to develop reading and growth mindset intervention for students with reading difficulties in grades 4-5.

As part of this four-year project (now in year 1), the post-doctoral research associate will engage in an iterative cycle of intervention development, which includes working closely with teachers to develop and pilot test instructional practices and materials to build student knowledge about growth mindset during reading instruction. The primary project activities include developing lessons and materials, delivering professional development to teachers, supporting teachers’ implementation of the lessons, data collection (self-report surveys, focus groups, interviews, observation of implementation fidelity).

Other responsibilities and opportunities can be negotiated based on the candidate’s skills and professional goals. They could include opportunity to receive mentoring in quantitative data analyses, contribute to manuscripts, and teach 2-4 courses per academic year within CEPSE to develop teaching and mentoring skills.  The post-doctoral research associate will also have the opportunity to work closely with the project co-PIs, Drs. Phil Capin ( and Sharon Vaughn ( at the University of Texas at Austin.

The position is a one-year position, with the possibility of a second year contingent upon successful performance during the first year. The start date of the position is flexible, but we desire an individual to begin work in the summer of 2022.


  • Oversee the IES-funded project, which includes developing lessons and intervention materials; delivering professional development sessions, coordinating data collection and processing/analysis of quantitative and qualitative data
  • Contribute to manuscripts and other dissemination efforts
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate research assistants
  • Teach 2-4 courses per academic year within CEPSE

Required Degree

Doctorate -Spec. Ed, Reading Ed, Ed Psych or relate

Minimum Requirements

Experience teaching reading (literacy) to students at risk or students with reading difficulties; Experience working effectively with teachers; Experience conducting educational research and/or psychology research, Have knowledge and expertise in the use of SPSS, Excel, and Mplus; Experience teaching or TAing courses in educational psychology and/or research methods at the  undergraduate or graduate level.

Required Degree:  Applicants should have an earned doctoral degree in special education, reading education, or educational psychology or a related field. Applicants who are ABD should provide evidence that the doctoral degree will be completed prior to the start of the appointment
