The University of New South Wales (UNSW) invites Research Fellows to apply for a position in the Gonski Institute for Education- Play Project.

The Research Fellow will manage the GIE Play project and have qualifications and experience in experimental

research methods, including data collection and analysis. With this project, we seek to address one of the prevailing issues regarding educational inequity, which is that children from disadvantaged backgrounds participate less in traditional classrooms; they are less engaged and this disengagement can have a dire impact upon their futures.

Based on what we already know about play and its impact on a child’s development, and what we know about the educational equity gap and what is needed to bridge it, we’ve formed a hypothesis. We predict that for disadvantaged children, exposure to unstructured play will set them upon an upward trajectory – giving them the skills they need to thrive alongside their more privileged counterparts.

The Research Fellow will also make intellectual contributions to GIE, as well as have the capacity to take on administrative responsibilities that are relevant to the undertaking and publication of research and grant application processes.
